| Keyboard layouts do not have to have an icon file, in which
case they receive a generic keyboard icon. However, you can attach
an icon file to a keyboard layout, and users will see this icon in
the Input menu and in the International preference pane. An icon file has to be an Apple icon file in the “icns” format. There are several utilities around on the Internet which can create such files from other graphic formats. To attach an icon file, choose “Attach Icon File...” from the Keyboard menu, and choose the icon file in the open file dialog. The icon file will be copied to the appropriate location. If you have the keyboard layout saved as a single file, the icon file is copied to the same folder, and has the same file name as the keyboard layout, but with the extension “.icns” rather than “.keylayout”. If your keyboard layout is in a bundle, the icon file will be saved inside the bundle. |
