| Creating a dead key involves choosing the “Create Dead Key…”
command from the Keyboard menu, or clicking the Create button on
the toolbar. In the status bar at the bottom of the window, you
will see a message telling you to press or click the new dead key.
That means either pressing the dead key on the physical keyboard,
like option-u, or holding down whatever modifiers you want and
clicking the key in the Ukelele window. What happens next depends on how you have set your preferences. A dialog opens asking what dead key state you want the dead key to enter. You can either create a new dead key state, with either an automatic name or what you supply, or choose an existing dead key state. When you create a new dead key state, if the preferences are set that way, you then are asked to provide the terminator. The default is an empty string for the terminator. Once you create the dead key, Ukelele automatically enters the new dead key state so that you can begin to enter the output for that dead key state. Initially, all the keys are blank, indicating that there is no output in the dead key state. If the Inspector window is open, you will see that the new dead key state is listed in the state stack. |
